Unlucky not to break through for a race win over a competitive Winter Racing Carnival, trainer Ciaron Maher has confirmed Mr O’Ceirin in the final field for the 2014 JRA Cup.

Securing ten wins and a further six minor places from just 36 competitive starts so far, Mr O’Ceirin was disappointing when finishing eleventh in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) first-up, but responded in great fashion upon arriving in Queensland; finishing second to champion mare Streama in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast.

Finishing a credible seventh in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 17th, the Postponed gelding again finished an agonizingly close second in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) on May 31st before running a luckless fifth when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) on June 7th.

Having finished sixth in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) most recently on September 13th, Maher is confident Mr O’Ceirin will receive the run of the race in the JRA Cup from the ideal barrier 4.

Without doubt the most experienced runner nominated for the 2014 JRA Cup, Team Cummings have confirmed Precedence for Friday’s Group 3.

Claiming a total of ten race wins and as many minor places over his long and busy 60 race career so far, Precedence was a regular Melbourne Cup entrant in the early years of his racing career, contesting three in total.

Experiencing a great resurgence in form over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, the Zabeel gelding finished second in a minor over 2040m on October sixth before claiming back-to-back victories in the Group 2 Drake International Cup (2500m) and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m); returning to the paddock after finishing sixth the in Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m).

Finishing third in the Hollindale Stakes and second in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) most notably over three winter starts, Precedence appeared particularly fresh when finishing 12th in the Listed Sofitel (1400m) first-up this time on September 13th, but should be far-better for the competitive run in the JRA Cup.

Gaining ballot-free entry to the 2014 Cox Plate with an exceptional start-to-finish win in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley last time out, The Cleaner has been confirmed in the final field for the 2014 JRA Cup.

Tasmania’s current leading racehorse, The Cleaner has returned to racing in career-best form this time in; finishing no worse than second in his five appearances on track.

Finishing second in the VRC-CRV Winter Championship Open (1400m) first-up on May 24th, the Savoire Vivre continued to build in form and class on his way to a close second in the Listed VRC-CRV Winter Championship Final (1600m) on July 12th; returning to the winner’s circle in the Jeep Don’t Hold Back Handicap (1600m) in his only other start prior to the Dato’.
