The final field and barrier draw for the Group 3 JRA Cup has been released, with the race due to take place at Moonee Valley this Friday night September 30, 2011.

Worth $200,000 in prize money, the 2011 JRA Cup will be run under quality handicap conditions and over a distance of 2,040 metres.

10 horses have accepted to run in the race, however, there is the notable absence of Alcopop who has competed in the race for the past two years.

Alcopop won the race in 2009 and finished a respectable fifth last year.

While Alcopop had originally been nominated to run in the 2011 JRA Cup, trainer Jake Stephens has opted to run the seven-year-old gelding in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington this Sunday October 2, 2011.

“It’s going to be a quality field, so I will have a better idea of just where he sits with what is around. It’s a good lead-up race,” Stephens said of the Turnbull Stakes.

“I think he will be better suited with the wider spaces at Flemington.”

While Alcopop will now make an appearance, the 2011 JRA Cup will still be a star-studded affair with the likes of Linton, Rekindled Interest and Southern Speed included in the final horse racing field.
